CMN 5161: construction of social reality in the media
CMN5161 - Construction of Social Reality in the Media - is an elective course for graduate students in the Department of Communication. This course was taught as part of an intensive summer program, in two 3-hour classes per week, for six weeks.
The course covers the following topics:
How reality TV aesthetics, casting practices, and narrative structures shape the construction of the “real”
The cultural, political, and ethical implications of reality TV production and representation.
I use a variety of assessment tools in this class, including weekly reflections, the creation and analysis of an audition video for a reality TV program, and a final research paper on the future of Reality TV.
