CMN 2101: research methods in communication

CMN 2101 - Research Methods in Communication - is a required course for students in the Department of Communication at the University of Ottawa. Generally, the course takes place in two 1.5-hour lectures per week.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to research in communication studies.

  • Use of traditional documentation and computerized resources, including the Internet.

  • Basic concepts and main stages of a research project: defining subjects, hypotheses and methodologies.

I use a variety of assessment tools in this class, including learning activity worksheets, group encyclopedia entries, and formal exams. My course syllabi, teaching evaluations and student feedback from this course can be found below:
